Hardcover. 'Written originally in Latin by the famous civilian Francis Hotoman, in the year 1574. And translated into English by the author of the Account of Denmark. The first edition in this form of the first major work of political significance emanating from the religious conflicts which created so much hatred in sixteenth century France. Written originally in Latin the work proffesses to show, with the aid of history, that monarchy should be elective and constitutional. The translation was by Robert, Viscount Moleswort and the book first appeared in English during 1711. This edition contains an entirely new preface by Molesworth having been extended by some thirty pages. The preface was reprinted in 1775 under the title 'The Principles of a Real Whig.' 2nd Edition in English. Contemporary panelled-calf expertly re-backed. Some pencil notes throughout, but it remains an extremely good copy. Very scarce. Published 1721

Paperback. [John Almon] 5th Edition. 4to. 51pp. Without the half-title. Rebound in morocco backed marbled boards, v. good condition. Seemingly the first tract to publicly announce Jenkinson's infatuation with an eighteen year girl thirty-six years his junior. John Almon, a successful bookseller and journalist, retired in 1781 after selling his business to John Debrett. His retirement was short-lived and he returned to publishing and journalism three years later. The present tract, much of it concerning America, was first published the same year. Interestingly Almon refers to Jenkinson's .amorous daliance after Miss A. It was no doubt ludicrous to see a tall thin old man of 54, over head and ears in love with a girl of 18. As yet we can find no other contemporary reference to this affair. Not in Sabin
