David Watkins joined the RAF when he was 19 and saw service in the UK, Germany and the Far East. He has written books on the de Havilland Vampire and Venom, No. 501 (County of Gloucester) Squadron, RAuxAF, RAF Chivenor and RAF Aerobatic Teams since 1920.

At a time when some aviation books are still laid out in a way that would have looked dated 30 years ago, the design is extremely modern without being fussy, and the paper quality is excellent... The text generally reads well, and is very comprehensive in its treatment of these illustrious British aircraft.
