Read moreis truly a handbook worth reading and keeping close at hand as it offers other helpful insight and suggestions on how to get your child to do the things that you want him to, how to praise him and suggestions on setting limits and time-outs. This book is easy to read and without jargon.
The Green Leaflet (Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada) This is an excellent, practical book, which is ideal for parents of children with TS, professionals and teachers. All through the book, Dr Chowdhury makes references to the research behind the clinical advice that he gives. As well as giving good information about the diagnosis of tics and TS, he takes a broad perspective of TS and looks at the effects of TS on the whole person (including emotional, educational and functional effects). The writing is clear and easy to understand without being patronizing and it is well-referenced to allow the keen reader to explore the area further. One of the things that most strikes me about the book is that it could only have been written by someone with extensive clinical experience of people with TS and by someone who has clearly listened and responded to the concerns of people with TS and their families. As well as covering the theoretical aspects of TS, the book also contains numerous practical strategies for managing anger, self-esteem problems and problems in the classroom. I would highly recommend this book.
