Rather than a particularized class consciousness as the source of working men's identity, Greenberg claims that household issues and concerns guided workplace and political reactions to the new industrial economy. Joshua R. Greenberg is assistant professor of history at Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts. He received his Ph.D. from American University and is a former fellow of the McNeil Center for Early American Studies.
