Psychology and the social sciences also have somewhat the same subject matter as ethics, but they arc mainly concerned with how human beings actually do act and societies actually do work; ethics concentrates on how persons ought to act and societies ought to be formed and reformed.

Germain Grisez is Bishop Harry J. Flynn Professor of Christian Ethics at Mount Saint Mary’s College and Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Russell Shaw is the former Director of Public Information and Publications for the Knights of Columbus. Shaw and Grisez are also co-authors of Fulfillment in Christ, published by the University of Notre Dame Press.
