[Local Acts. – Preliminary Inquiries: 9 & 10 Vict. C. 106. Londonderry Borough Improvement Bill. Report of the Commissioners of Her Majesty’s Woods, Forests, Land Revenues, works and Buildings, enclosing the Report of the Surveying Officers appointed under the above Act.] Together with the Abstract and Index to Minutes of Proceedings taken before the Surveying Officers. The Surveying Officers carried out a Local Examination of the District which the proposed Act would affect. The examination covered Seven Divisions: Division I – Supply of Water. Division II – Drainage, Sewerage and Cleansing. Division III – Lights (Gas). Division IV – Pavements. Division V – Markets (Part 1: Grain Market, Part 2: Flax Market). Division VI – Cemeteries. Division VII – Finance Rates. The object of the Bill was to improve the sanitary condition of the City of Londonderry, and to place the regulation of the improvements to be made therein in the hands of the Corporation, to consolidate the existing Acts, and to obtain all modern powers for effecting the improvements contemplated. Return to an order of the Honourable The House of Commons, dated 30 March 1854; - for, A Copy ‘of Report of the Commissioners of Public Works in Ireland on the Survey of the River Barrow; and an Account of the Sums of Money Received and Expended on such Survey, from the Year 1842 to 1850 inclusive.’] The Author states ‘No Report was made by the Commissioners of Public Works in Ireland. The best Return that can be made to the Order of the Honourable House is the Accompanying Memorandum, preserved in the Office of the Commissioners of Public Works in Ireland’. The said Memorandum is Titled [Report of the Commissioners of Public Works communicated to the Meeting of the Proprietors interested in the Lands liable to Flood from the overflow of the River Barrow, assembled at the Town of Monasterevan on the 17th April 1851] The Memorandum states that the Survey could not be completed due to the Treasury’s Decision that any further money for such a purpose should be advanced by the Parties interested.
