Description for The Countess of Pembroke's Arcadia. With His Life And Death; a brief Table of the principal heads, and some other new additions. 1674. 13th Edition. Folio. Light soiling to the title, some page numerals cropped mostly around the centre signatures, otherwise a very good copy in later diced-calf re spined with twin labels, gilt. The last edition of Sidney's masterpiece to be printed in the seventeenth century and effectively the last to appear without considerable alteration. It contains Belins sixth book titled seperately, the "Remedie For Love" and Johnston's Supplement to the thrid book. The second of these pieces first appeared in the 10th edition of 1655. None of Sidney's works were published before his death in 1586. The "Arcadia" was begun in 1580 and was probably completed by 1583, three years before his death and five before publication. Wing S3770. An extremely nice copy.
