Irish Publishers - Blackstaff Press

Blackstaff Press

Launched in Belfast in 1971 with a book of political cartoons, Blackstaff Press is now regarded as one of Ireland's foremost publishers. Over 700 titles have been published covering a wide range of subjects, which are mainly, but not exclusively, of Irish Interest.
Blackstaff books have won numerous awards over the years. In 1992 they achieved a notable double by being named UK Small Publisher of the Year by the Sunday Times and winner of an AIB Better Ireland Communication Award.
Blackstaff's publishing programme has been widely praised for its integrity and liberal ethos. The company also provides an important platform for creative writers and artists, and its contribution to cultural life is recognised in the generous assistance it receives from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. The company also offers publishing services to outside bodies and in recent years has been commissioned to publish books for, among others, BBC NI, Belfast City Council, the Royal Victoria Hospital, Queen's University Belfast and the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland.
