Children's Books

"Mol an óige agus tiofaidh siad" is a well-worn phrase in the Irish language which can be translated as "Praise the young and they will improve". Encouraging a child to love books and reading is every bit as rewarding. You can find books here for children of all ages. We also have children's books by Irish authors, including Eoin Colfer, whose bestselling "Artemis Fowl" now comes in a wonderful gift set, complete with high tech Artemis style radio device. A wonderful local publication, "Claddagh, The Tale of the Ring", by Patricia McAdoo, is beautifully illustrated by Galway artist, James Newell. Oscar Wilde's "Stories for Children" displays to the full the lively wit and wisdom for which his world-famous plays are celebrated. With rich colourful illustrations by Jenny Thorne complimenting six well loved children's stories, including The Happy Prince.

We agree with Walt Disney when he said that the "Our greatest natural resource is the minds of our children". We have also heard it said that you should "always be nice to your children because they are the ones who will choose your rest home". So, irrespective of your motive, buying an new or antiquarian Irish book for a child is a worthwhile investment.
