Saturday, 09 July 2011

We've heard a few rumours about some movie that was released this week in London. Ireland's Magdalen Laundries PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 20 June 2011

Ireland's Magdalen Laundries 978026804127 It is a tragic part of our history, but as the Government has recently announced the setting up of a committee investigating the State's Role in the Magdalen Laundries, books about the topic have been getting some media attention. The best book on the subject is Ireland's Magdalen Laundries and the Nation's Architecture of Containmane by James M. Smith.

'Ireland’s Magdalen Laundries is an important book, written with scrupulous attention to detail and impeccably researched. This is a dark and deeply emotional subject about which James M. Smith manages to be fair-minded and calm in his judgments. It is an essential book for anyone interested in the fear and cruelty surrounding women’s sexuality in the Ireland of the recent past."

Rob Lowe on Graham Norton Rob Lowe appeared on The Graham Norton Show this weekend to discuss his new book, Stories I Only Tell My Friends . We had thought the title was a tad too ironic, but the Graham Norton appearance revealed that some of Lowe's stories may indeed be best kept to his friends! Highlights from the interview include 80s brat-pack heart throb Lowe explaining to man-of-the-moment Bradley Cooper how to use MTV as the Home Shopping Network for women. Simone de Beauvoir rolls in her grave... BBC One - The Graham Norton Show
