Maps & Prints
Powerscourt Waterfall, Wicklow by T. Creswick

Here at Kennys, we have an exceptional collection of one thousand Antiquarian Maps & Prints of Ireland. The prints are all originals and the vast majority are dated between 1770 and 1890, with every effort having been made to determine the exact date of publication. The majority of the prints are in excellent condition, especially in consideration of their age, and are double mounted/matted ready for framing with a biographical note on the original artist and a description of the engraving technique used. Prints are professionally cleaned and many are handcoloured by a full-time artist.

The prints depict contemporary scenes of Ireland, with a wide variety of picturesque landscapes. The sizes quoted are those of the engraved surface, with the height given first. In many cases, particularly with the antique maps, the original spelling has been used in the name. E.G.: Abby may be used instead of Abbey. Similarly many place names are given their original spellings. For example, "Ouchterard" may be listed instead of Oughterard and "Drumcong" instead of Drimcong.

Samuel Lewis County Maps

County Kerry - Samuel Lewis Reproduction Map

Kennys are proud to publish these reproductions of all 32 county maps from Samuel Lewis' 1837 Topographical Atlas of Ireland. Each map is hand painted in watercolours by a professional artist on Scotia Conservation Paper. This paper is acid and bleach free and is therefore environmentally friendly. It is a textured paper with a distinctive weave pattern watermarked onto the sheet. The maps are supplied double mounted/matted ready for framing and include a biographical information sheet on the reverse.

The original publisher, Samuel Lewis the elder, carried on business successively in Aldersgate Street, Hatton Garden, and Finsbury Place South, London, under the name "S. Lewis & Co.". He is most likely the same Samuel Lewis who died at 19 Compton Terrace, Islington, on 28th February, 1865. His atlas comprising the counties of Ireland and a general map of the Kingdom was published in 1837.
